So, I took a wonderful class yesterday at the International Dermal Institute about Adult Acne. So many of our clients are dealing with this issue, and the class confirmed that about 1/2 of the US adult population is dealing with acne in some form…shocking! In fact, the median age for acne these days is 26! And it’s different from teenage acne; adults tend to have breakouts along the mouth and jawline (hormonal areas), and tend to get more inflammation. Fun stuff!

So many things are to blame for this acne phenomenon. Ask yourself…are you under a lot of stress? Have you changed any medications recently? A new birth control? Are you washing your pillowcases regularly? Are your phones clean? Sometimes pinpointing a factor can help subdue acne.

If you are one of the many adults dealing with breakouts…have no fear! The Dermalogica MediBac Clearing line for adult acne is the ULTIMATE product line. It addresses the main causes of adult breakouts, and helps to calm inflammation and prevent future breakouts. Whew! Glad to know that we have worthy products to recommend to our clients…acne is so frustrating.

Dermalogica MediBac Skin Kit

I like to get people started with this adult acne skin kit. It has:

  • Medicated cleanser
  • Clearing Mattifier (to control shine and breakouts during the day)
  • Overnight Clearing Gel (to help you wakeup to gorgeous skin!)
  • Oil Control Lotion (to give you hydration without feeling greasy)
  • Concealing Spot Treatment (conceals breakouts while treating them, too)
  • Sebum Clearing Mask (an AWESOME treatment that you can’t miss out on…it won ‘Best Acne Product’ by AOL Health Readers!!!)

The kit is a great way to try the line…our clients always come back for more once they see the results!

Ingredient Spotlight: Tea Tree Oil December 27, 2009

Tea Tree is an essential oil that comes from the leaves of a tree found in Australia (the Melaleuca alternifolia) .

You may have seen it lots of different products for many different issues (like acne, sunburns, blisters and more)! That’s because of tea tree oil’s antibacterial properties.

When used topically, it can help kill the bacteria that causes breakouts. To help maximize its potential for reducing pimples, use it in conjection with Salicylic Acid. This beta hydroxy acid cuts through oil, while the tea trea’s antifungal properties help prevent future problems!

It’s great to have tea tree oil in your medicine cabinet in case you  get a blister or cut. If you are using it for it’s acne-fighting ability, try Dermalogica’s MediBac Clearing line! It combines tea tree with Salicylic Acid, and other calming ingredients for maximum results.

Dermalogica Wins “Best Acne Fighter” at AOL Health June 24, 2009

Dermalogica’s MediBac Clearing Adult Acne line was just named #1 by AOL users!
Dermalogica Sebum Clearing Masque

Dermalogica Sebum Clearing Masque

The Sebum Clearing Masque won top honors, with a 9.5 out of 10 rating. The product won tons of praises…most fans cited the product’s ability ot absorb oil without overdrying the skin.

That’s the beauty of this Dermalogica acne system…it strikes the perfect balance of absorbing oil and keeping skin hydrated. So many acne lines  focus on drying out oil. That gives you initial results, but eventually your body overcompensates for this severe dryness by overproducing even more oil!

Not only does Sebum Clearing Masque help manage oil and prevent future breakouts…it also helps calm irritation that is often present with acne. Skin looks cleaner and healthier!

So, there’s your proof. Don’t listen to what commercials are telling you- listen to what real product users are saying. We love Dermalogica because it’s results-driven, and it loooks like everyone agrees. :-)
