Winter weather can be so drying, but spring is the time to show off your gorgeous skin! Here are some tips to get your skin ready for warmer weather…
- Spring clean your cosmetic drawer.
Most skin care and cosmetic have a shelf life of about 2 years (less if it’s organic). After that, they become less effective, collect bacteria, and can irritate your skin! Toss any products whose color is “off”, anything you’ve had over 24 months, and anything that smells funny. Products with Salicylic Acid and SPF should have an expiration date. Some product manufacturers (ie: Mac Cosmetics) allow you to recycle old products at their store…and they often reward you for doing so! Then reward yourself to new spring products!
- Buy a daily moisturizer with an SPF15 to SPF30.
This is sooo important year ’round, but ESPECIALLY during spring and summer when we live outdoors! Even on cloudy days, the sun is damaging our skin, creating wrinkles and sun spots that often don’t show up until years later- SCARY. Did you know that most sun damage is on the left side of our face because the sun is effecting us while we are driving?!?!
Try finding a moisturizer with SPF and tint to match your skin…it will save you lots of fuss in the morning so that you can go enjoy the beautiful spring weather!
Tip: I LOVE Dermalogica’s Sheer Tint Moisture SPF 15 for summer…it is lightweight, age-fighting, and comes untinted, light, medium and dark. - Exfoliate your face and body.
Exfoliation removes dead skin cells and keeps our skin looking young and healthy! When we don’t exfoliate, our skin gives off a “dull” appearance. After just 1 exfoliation, you really see and feel a huge difference in your skin. This is something we should do 3-5 times per week to achieve a gorgeous complexion.
There are exfoliants for all skin types and concerns…click here to learn more about exfoliants! - Treat puffy eyes.
Unfortunately, spring also brings allergies. If you have red, puffy eyes try these solutions:
Place a wet wash cloth in the fridge for a couple of hours. Then lay it over the eye area to calm puffiness.
Place cucumbers over your eyes…it’s an old trick, but it works!
Apply an oatmeal or hydrating gel mask around the eye area. Let it sit for about 10 minutes, then remove. - Wear a cute hat and sunglasses.
Not only is it cute for spring, but they also help protect your face from the sun! - Drink LOTS of water.
We all know it’s important for our body, but our skin needs lots of water, too. We absorb water internally first, so the skin is often the last organ to receive the benefits of water. The warm weather can be dehydrating, so drink up and notice the difference it makes on your skin. - Take advantage of spring fruits.
Citrus fruits and berries are everywhere in the spring! They are full of antioxidants, which keep us looking young by fighting off free radical damage. You can also crush 1 cup of fruit with 1/4 cup of cornstarch to make a facial mask. Apply it for about 10 minutes, then remove with warm water. Fruits often contain enzymes that help eat away dead skin cells. You may also like:
