Many of our clients are concerned with sun damage. Sometimes sun spots are more topical, but many times they are
the result of a lifetime of sun exposure. There is never a guarantee when it comes to treating sun damage, but a combination of treatment and products is your best bet!
Microdermabrasion is often promoted to treat sun spots…it treats them by exfoliating off pigmented skin cells. To boost the effects, a skin therapist can apply skin brightening products after a microderm. The ingredients should penetrate into the skin better since there isn’t a layer of dead skin cells for them to work through.
One microdermabrasion isn’t enough to see change when it comes to sun damage. A series is always recommended (at least 4 treatments). Why? Because sun damage doesn’t happen over night, and can’t be treated in one session. Several weeks of treatments can start to make a difference in the skin.
Remember…don’t trust anyone that promises to get rid of sun damage! There is no guarantee. Here are some guidelines to follow to get the best results:
- Commit to a microdermabrasion schedule (as recommended by a skin therapist)
- Wear your sunscreen every day (even if you are just running errands)…click here to see why!
- Use an exfoliant at home (look for brightening ingredients ingredients like Lactic Acid, Phytic Acid, Vitamin C)
- If you are outside for a long period, wear a hat and try to stay shaded…1 day of sun exposure can counteract any results you are seeing
